Fishing! When its good at Spinney Mountain State
Park, you'll have to look hard to find any better. Home to trophy-sized
cutthroat trout, as well as rainbows, browns and northern pike,
Spinney provides excellent belly boating, shore fishing and boating
opportunities for anglers. Camping is not allowed at Spinney. This
2,500 surface-acre reservoir serves as an isolated retreat for visitors
seeking beautiful views of the Collegiate Mountain Range or just
a little solitude from life in the city. The park is open seasonally
from ice-off to ice-on (approximately May 1 through Nov. 15) and
is a day-use area only. Camping is available at nearby Eleven Mile
State Park.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE PARK IS CLOSED DURING THE WINTER SEASON. IT RE-OPENs IN THE
SPRING.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only fishing opportunities during the winter closure are on
the S. Platte River. Watch for the closure lines (signs) that indicate
where public access is prohibited. All visitors must walk into the
river. Nearby Eleven Mile State Park remains open year-round.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directions - From Colorado Springs, take U.S. 24 west for 55 miles
over Wilkerson Pass. Turn south on Park County Road 23 and drive
